someone touched me yesterday

dearest met up with jackson for lunch yesterday. and brought a gift back for me.
note the word “brought”, not bought.
sheena actually bought me a really lovely precious moments figurine!

Your Friendship Sweetens My Life

i was so surprised. 2 friends sitting on a couch sharing sweet strawberries… aww…
there was a little card that accompanies the figurine too…
but i was cracking my head to think of a reason for sheena’s sweet (and expensive!) gesture. hmm… my birthday was just over and we celebrated… hmm…
anyway, so i smsed sheena to thank her and she said she wanted to cheer me up after reading “what does the future hold for us“.

gosh, how sweet is that? seriously, i was very touched.

it has been the longest time since i made a new friend.
i still remember sheena and i first met about 8 (?) months ago, when both of us tagged along with our boyfriends to their “annual gathering” – where the 3 buddies meet up 3 times each year to celebrate each others’ birthday.
i still remember i was feeling pretty apprehensive before sheena turned up because i wasn’t sure whether she will dislike me because i usually have this really stuck-up face when i am with strangers.
i still remember wondering whether i will like sheena – not sure whether she is the ang-moh speaking type or whether she is the spoilt-brat and princessy type.
when she turned up with jackson, i was relieved. cos she speaks chinese (haha) and is bubbly, ready to talk to all of us any time. it was not awkward at all.

from then on, the 4 of us met up pretty often. from meeting once a month to twice, from dinners to sing-song sessions, to planning a trip, to crazy shopping in bangkok, to dinners all over singapore, to late night suppers etc. now the boys call each other every few days and the girls gossip everyday over email (oops). we meet up like at least once a week and have done all sorts of sports like cycling, babmintion, swimming and bowling.

it’s pretty amazing isn’t it?

the 2 of us girls wanted to bring the guys closer, after all they have spent many tough days making money in the past and shared this brotherhood together. we not only achieved our objective, we are also on the way to becoming great friends ourselves. we talk about anything and everything about us and our boyfriends and share our dreams and future with each other. we even talked about becoming neighbours! haha…

8 months is a short time. while the duration can never compare to the other friendships built from our childhood days, i am confident our friendship will grow even stronger in time to come. i know i can never replace her besties but i know she is definitely a dear friend to keep for life.

dearest sometimes say he thinks i am fake when i respond to sheena in written words. well, i am not! it’s just that i’m just not good with words and expressing myself that’s all. i’m pretty reserved with my actions and don’t always show affection. admittedly because i am an only child, i am used to being taken care of (though it is not an excuse i know), so it is harder for me to take the initiative to show care and concern. but it doesn’t mean i do not care enough.

sheena, i know you will be reading this. again, i thank you for being such a sweet friend. thank you for lending a listening ear and thank you for caring. you know that i will also be there for you ok – just a call away – any time. i am fortunate to have found a friend in you.
