it’s the B day!
B is for Badminton. B is for BBQ.
28th June Saturday
woke up at 7.30am, what an ungodly hour. was supposed to go marketing with dearest and alfred in preparation for the bbq feast that night. but as usual, dearest found his dreamland more attractive and didn’t wake up until 9plus. so we met around 10plus instead.
first stop was bedok market blk 538. this is the place where my daddy worked for the past 30 years. daddy used to work for his daddy’s fish stall, scrapping fish scales, chopping up fish heads, washing foul fish blood etc. when daddy’s daddy passed away, daddy took over the stall. unfortunately, daddy gave up the stall to his brother because he has more mouths to feed than daddy, and the government took the stall back because he delayed too many utilities payments. so now, my daddy works for someone else instead, slicing fish. i have not visited daddy’s workplace for at least 20 years i think. it felt pretty strange seeing daddy hosing down the stall and washing the area. daddy is getting old… shouldn’t work so hard really… it’s not like he needs that extra cash… anyway, we were there to collect prawns and sotong for the bbq.
then we headed to bedok central hawker for breakfast/lunch before going to sheng song to buy budget stuffs for the bbq. we were qute rushed because we are due for badminton at 12 noon. but we made sure we bought all the cheapest stuff. like, 2 packets of sausages for $2?! cheap right? we didn’t care whether it was tasty or not. afterall when you bbq them, they should taste the same… right?
so we bought a lot of cheap stuff, within the allocated budget of $80. then dearest sent alfred home to prepare the marination of the raw food and we rushed off to meet sheena and jackson for badminton.
nowadays, badminton sessions are no longer as tiring. they say it’s because we are getting better and have more stamina. i wonder if it is really true. maybe we just grew tired of playing, and no longer put much efforts in playing? i hope they are right and i am wrong… although i still suck at this game, at least it is comforting to know that i can say, “oh i play badminton”! ya, this is probably the only sports game that i can manage.
straight after badminton, we went to fetch alfred and the food, then headed to pick ah bao, a classmate of dearest from kaplan. oh, ah bao is twice of alfred’s size! because we had to place some of the food in the backseat, we figured alfred and ah bao can’t possibly fit into the backseat together so i suggested for alfred to drive and ah bao can sit in front while me and dearest take a break at the backseat. ah bao is from vietnam so most of the conversations between them were about how things are done in singapore, or how are things like in vietnam etc. we drove ah bao to marine parade hawker and introduced him to chendol.
next stop, nicholas’ house. dearest and me took a shower there and then relaxed in a quick sing song session. then it was time to start the bbq.
