what i’ve been up to

i haven’t been blogging much because there’s nothing really interesting in my life except for the rings and date of engagement which i’ve updated in the other blog.

dearest has been very busy with his new career in the real estate industry and the good news is he closed a first deal 2 sundays ago! definitely a very strong morale booster. hope good deals continue to come by. remember, if you have lobangs, must recommend ok…

because he is so busy with work, i try to occupy my time and not bother him. so i’ve made a few new friends! it started with badminton with my colleague’s friends. then we also did karaoke, steamboat, basketball, dinners, pool etc together. and the happiest thing is, even dearest have met most of them a couple of times. i love it when dearest accepts my frens and vice versa!

i’ve also been hooked on buying stuff from US and shipping via vpost. mainly skincare stuff – must take extra care of my skin now that i have freckle-few face! and i’m happy to share that my skin feels and look great now with the vit c, anti-oxidant, sunscreen, apple cider vinegar toner and emu oil that i’m using (on different times and days of course, not altogether!) also ventured into mineral makeup which on the very first time i used it, dearest genuinely commented that i look fab! haha… i’m so going to buy more mineral makeup and brushes soon.

oh, and, i think the best thing is, dearest and i are growing. together, and in a good way (though we are indeed growing in the horizontal way as well). i’m not sure whether it’s a sign or maturity, or that we are getting mentally prepared for marriage, or that we are simply continuing to loving each other. although we do bicker now and then, both of us make extra effort to be sweet to each other and to spend time with each other whenever possible.

like tonight. dearest needed to meet a client but he didn’t want to see me being alone for dinner so he specially made time and had dinner with me. even ordered extra ingredients – my fav sotong for me. and he had this happy look when he sees me finishing the huge bowl of fish soup. and then bought potato chips for me somemore!

little thoughtful things that never fail to warm me. love.

when the simplest words mean the world

dearest & i were in the car waiting for his friends to arrive for dinner. he placed a pillow over my lap and rested on it.

熊天平’s song 最后还是会 was playing over the radio. i was singing along to the song while softly stroking dearest’s hair.

dearest fell asleep halfway through the song.

when dearest woke up, he said “i remember hearing you sing before i dozed off – that familiar voice and the familiar touch”. he said a bit more than this and i can’t recall the exact words.

but they meant a lot to me. a lot.

it’s amazing.

attended sherlynn (sheena’s dear sister) and jeffry’s wedding on friday.

when jeffry popped the champagne, dearest caught the champagne cork. effortlessly. it just came to him.
those at our table said jokingly that the next wedding is going to be ours.

dearest is complaining that i’m not blogging much anymore. well, there’s nothing much for me to blog about.

yeah, sherlynn’s wedding was heartwarming and lots of fun (we reached home only around 4am!) but we didn’t take any pictures of our own, so there’s nothing much to blog about. oh, except for the fact that sheena was so busy entertaining the guests, it’s like her own wedding instead. and jackson went around trying to get friends drunk on red wine, so it’s also like his wedding. ha.

yeah, we went to the ronald cheng & william su concert. but can’t blog about it because we didn’t take any pictures.

and, yeah, i had a new haircut. went to a new hairstylist who had quite a bit of attitude. asked me whether i want to get a new hairstyle and i said “anything”. then he gave me a magazine and asked me to pick something i like. i said i didn’t know what’s suitable for me and he picked out 2 styles, and then decided on one for me.

now… the hair looks korean. he almost layered off all my hair and now i have a fluffy head, and miserable strands of hair hanging from the fluff. heh. sometimes i find it trendy, sometimes i find myself looking like an auntie. it’s a thin line.

it’s liverpool’s big match tonight. yippee yeah…

surprise surprise!

dearest called me this morning. at 7.30am. woah! that’s something new… hehe…

and he made my day because he offered to send me to work!

so i happily continued with my make up while thinking about what breakfast should we have at the market below before going to work.

15 min later, he walked into my room. with breakfast! i thought he bought them from the market. then he said he made it himself!

his 爱心早餐 just for me! absolutely delicious french toast! not oily at all but with a strong aroma of butter, plus lots of egg and just nice sweetness! with milk AND orange juice to go along…

finally, the weekend is here. soon enough.

daytime this week has been not-so-good. received sickening news at work. i’m going to have a new boss. the big boys up there decided to give the finance organization structure a revamp and move the teams around as they wish – like monopoly pieces.

i’m pissed about the developments. and i’m even more pissed about the lack of devlepments. this time round, i am not going to sit around and mope without doing anything. i’ve already highlighted my concerns to one level and if nothing comes out of it, i am going to escalate to the next level.

the best thing out of this is that i spoke to dearest about how i felt about the whole issue and he is supportive. if things do not improve, i might just throw in the towel. i can’t always hang around and be bullied just cos the big boys think i need this job very badly right?

anyway, i know i am being ultra cryptic here and you won’t understand much of it. originally i wanted to relate the whole thing at length and then lock it up but i’m just to lazy to do that. anyway, you are probably not interested in what i have to say about my work anyway. heh.

nightime, on the other hand, was not-so-bad! on wednesday, dearest picked me up from work and we went pak-tor-ing! it’s been some time since we’ve done that. dearest was dressed very smartly that night as he went for an interview earlier and maybe he felt very executive, so we went to marina and esplanade and mingle with the working class. ha.

dinner was at the glutton bay – steamboat in individual claypot style, cooked over charcoal, plus a mini bbq! it was rather special but the slow cooking time disappointed us a little (cos we were sooo hungry!). food is alright, not exactly fantastic but not bad enough to complain about.

then we strolled under the cool breeze, hand-in-hand… it feels great! to be able to spend time with someone you love in the middle of a lousy work week. and then we did something which we’ve never done before in our 7 years together! we went to 爱琴海!

i’ve been to the music cafe before with my ex-classmates but not with dearest. and dearest had always wanted to go. most of the times when we go to marina square together, we will walk pass, think about going in but never did. this time we finally did! yeah! it was pretty enjoyable… i think we might just go back there again.

i was so pleased by the mid-week dating that i slept like really really soundly that night… and… overslept the next morning! wahahaha…

work sucks. but i’m happy when dearest is around.

meeting the old pals later! should be full of gossips and complaints later… yeah! =)

it came and went

14 August 2009 – two thousand five hundred and fifty seven days of togetherness.
it was our 7th anniversary. how time flies!
8 months ago i had imagined to myself that this day might be the day when i receive a diamond ring.
heh. the wish didn’t come true. in fact, we didn’t even celebrate the day with gifts, like what we used to do for the past 6 years.

but it’s ok! i wasn’t disappointed at all.

instead, we spent a long weekend with sheena and jackson in genting. jackson drove us all the way up, and back again! where to find such a selfless pal? so we spent most of the time gambling. wahaha…. no shopping, no rides – just eating, gambling, eating, gambling, sleeping and gambling again.

as usual dearest and i didn’t have much luck but we still enjoyed ourselves a lot.

we returned home on sunday and then at night, dearest and i went to harry’s at chjimes and watched the first liverpool match in the latest epl season. i have decided to join dearest in being a liverpool fan. hahaha… finally, like after 7 years! well, liverpool lost. but it’s ok. they are a strong team.

and today, i was on unpaid leave and dearest and i went to topone. guess what? we got ourselves like really high on martell. in the afternoon! hahaha… so we went home by evening time and crashed out.

after about 2 hours’ sleep, dearest woke up and went to the toilet. when he came back, this really hilarious conversation took place:

D: 我们的 dice 赢多少？
K： har？
D： 我们的 dice 赢多少？
K： aiya， 不要 talk cock lar
D： 我没有
K： talk cock leh
D： 我们躺在这里可以拿多少钱？

at this point in time i finally realized that dearest wasn’t joking
the conversation carried on for a little while before dearest himself realized that he was talking nonsense
and then we had a really really good laugh over this

die, my dearest is becoming a gambler! hahahaha…

the past week sucks big time.

so last tuesday i felt the cold coming and took off early from work to see the doc. unfortunately my fav doc is not on duty and i consulted the other doc instead. he said he’d give me some antibiotics to be sure. once i reached home, my fever shot up to 38.3 degrees. i tot if i took my medicine dutifully and slept the whole day, i will be good to go to work the next day. instead, i was restless the whole night, waking every 1.5 hours and feeling feverish. finally i woke up the next day at 5am with fever as high as 39.4.

i called in sick again and went to the clinic to extend my MC. felt better in the afternoon but again when night time came, i turned all feverish again. the terrible fever cycle repeated itself and i woke up on thursday morning with 38.6 degrees. this time, i went to see the doc again, with a massive sore throat. and the doc had to switch my antibiotics and gave me more medicine.

i really dislike this doc. 3 years ago, he made me suffer exactly the same thing. started by giving me some useless antibiotics which gave me high fever on and off for 3 days, before switching to another range of antibiotics which then cleared my fever almost instantaneously! argh…

so i was on MC from tues to fri. wat a pain.

and the antibiotics made me feel all sick, without the fever. the lack of appetite, that horrible after taste in the mouth, the horrid smell through the nose, the unsettling stomach, the bloatedness, the vomit, the ulcers in the mouth, on the lips, the red and raw sore throat that hurts big time at night, the cough of yucky sticky yellow phlegm, etc etc. it was HORRIBLE!

i’m finally down to my last tablet of antibiotic now. hope all the yucky side effects (including HUGE zits everywhere over my face and tiny little rashes all over my body!) will go away tomorrow.

but in the midst of being sick, i’ve had a lot of concern from those who care, and i am very very grateful. you know who you are, thank you… all of you… =)

and i have to say, although the first few days were utmost difficult without dearest by my side, he definitely made it up once he is back. dearest has been most patient with the sickly me, including having bland meals with me and even tolerating my nonsense especially the few hours after i take the antibiotic. and for that i’m really really thankful. love you baby!

and so i came home early from work today and caught my daddy feeding durians to jia jia and ben ben…

me: wah, eat durians leh! got anymore left?
daddy: dun have lar…
me: huh? nice or not?
daddy: of cos nice lar! you dun get to eat, confirm nice [laughs loudly]
me: cheh…

then daddy washed up after jia & ben and went back to his room with the girlfriend.

i returned to my room too, to change into home clothes

15 min later, there was a knock on my room door…

daddy went downstairs specially to buy durian for me!

heh… lucky me… [beams with delight]

why do u love someone?

this is totally inspired by sheena:

one day, sheena’s mum asked jackson: why do you love sheena?
the answer: just because
sheena’s mum failed jackson’s answer

over dinner last night (together with all of them including sheena’s mum), this topic came up again, and i asked dearest the same question.
coincidentally, he was holding my hands.
and so he looked into my eyes and replied: “there’s no why. i love you that’s all”

to me, it was an acceptable answer. i think love is unexplainable. it’s… just… a feeling. if the same question was posed to me, i will be at a loss of words as well.

mins later, dearest held my hand again and said: “i know why i love you”
“why?” i asked
“because you are always very good to me”

and that meant the world to me.

i hope i dun sound boastful here… but these 2 days i’ve been getting subtle compliments from colleagues.

i survived!

this is a quick update for all the dear friends who wished me well and gave me lots of encouragement.
the op was completed in about 10 min, by 10.55am. doc says it’s a success.
dearest came and fetch me home and i slept from 1.30pm to 6pm, waking every 2 hours (dearest set alarm for me) to put eye drops as instructed.
now, i feel perfectly fine. can see very well (hope it’s 6/6, will know tomorrow), except that i’ll see some halo effect on things with lights. this is normal.

i will blog more in details tomorrow, now must let my eye rest more.

i declare it was SUCCESSFUL!!! yippeee!
Dr Lee is going to get more business after i recommend all my friends to him! wahahaha…

by the way, i saw shuwen at the clinic. wanted to see kelvin (he came to fetch her) but my eye was too stinging then to open fully, so i missed the chance.

the prawns hate us!

dearest and i spent 2 hours prawning and we caught…

1 miserable tiny prawn. yup, just 1. and it was so small i LOL when dearest caught it…

but it doesn’t matter because dearest said:

we didn’t catch any prawns but it’s ok, cos i love you

the long weekend was rather non-eventful. but i enjoyed it. because i had lots of love…

indeed… prophecy come true

it was indeed a lovely weekend with dearest.

we went to telok blangah for roti prata (and also shared duck noodles! fatty!) and then to queensway for SHOPPING!

and guess what i bought? 99.9% on impulse:

oakley sunglasses!
i’ve never been generous enough with myself to own a pair of sunglasses.
each time i give myself excuses. first i say that i will buy a pair when i pass my driving test.
then when i really passed, i say i will buy when i buy a car.
now that i dun intend to buy a car in the near future, i dun need to buy sunglasses anymore (save money!)

then at first i thought when i do my lasik, i’ll need a pair of sunglasses. but my first thought was to borrow from friends.
then i happily read from dr lee’s website that they will provide special sunglasses. but when i went for the consultation, they didn’t mention that it will be provided.
so… i needed to buy one for myself.

had always wanted a gucci one, and NEVER thought i will ever buy oakley.
strangely, kinda fell in love with this one when i tried it on.
so despite the fact that oakley prices are controlled (means no discount even if bought in queensway), i bought it without any hesitation.
damage: $350.

and to join in the fun, dearest got a pair of ray ban as well! wahaha…
he was finding it difficult to decide between 2 colours, and in the end chose e one which looks FIERCE! haha…
it’s special – full black, and the frame is matt! really COOL!

then we went to orchard and roamed around aimlessly… until we thought of a ‘brilliant’ place to go to!
night safari! woohoo!
both dearest and i have never been there before. i knew dearest didn’t like the zoo much… so i was really worried that he will find the night safari boring.
to both our surprise, night safari turned out to be fun!
well, it was something new for us. we took the 45 min tram ride and then joined the queue to watch the oh-my-god hilarious animal show.

then we went to see all sorts of animals, by foot. it was really dark and a little scary… but it was interesting seeing all the different animals, and esp get to see the majestic ones like tiger and leopard up close.
there was this pack of wolves, just standing around on top of a cliff… and then we left them after a short while. and they started howling! i forced dearest to run back to see them in action. it was… impressive! they just kept howling and howling non-stop. pretty eerie too.

and now to check out our pretty and handsome faces! *puke*

we were on the tram, getting ready to start the journey. i feel like a little girl again… anticipating wat’s to come.

once upon a time, my mum called me a zebra. because i spend too much money buy useless things.
“黑白马” in hokkien means “anyhow buy”. hehe… my witty mum.
dearest remembers it, so he made me take a pic on the zebra chair.

basically we enjoyed ourselves very much. just that the next time we go, we will make sure we are in shorts and slippers, and have our dinner first! we were starving halfway through the walk! by the time we left it was after 11pm and we rushed to chomp chomp to have a quick dinner.

and today (sunday), we met sheena and jackson for lunch at oasis! it’s been more than a week since we met them. sheena was recovering from a bad flu, and although she did look tired, she has slimmed down and looks prettier!

after lunch dearest and i went to parkway.
to be a zebra again.

we bought:
- a slow cooker $57 (thanks dear)
- a dvd player $159
- a hdmi cable $50
- lots of tonics $100 (dearest bought sooo much for me… because he says he wants me to build a stronger health… at any price… sweet right)

and sometime next week, i will be making hasima for dearest! hope it turns out fine…

it’s a wonderful week. i’m sure everyday will be as happy as this weekend!

• celebrating 6 years and 8 months!

early in the morning, when dearest and i had our usual morning call, he said ‘happy anniversary’ to me! yippee… he remembered! hee…

 in the evening, we met for dinner as usual. but this time round we went to the newly opened tampines 1 and had japanese food! i think it’s called manpuku or something like that. it’s like marche. the food wasn’t fantastic but i quite enjoyed it… after all, it was spending precious time with dearest

after tat, we actually queued up to go into uniqlo! i saw this really cute t-shirt but dearest felt it was too kiddy for him. so after a long consideration, we didn’t buy it.

 

• bought 2 lovely dresses!

then we walked back to tampines mall (the parking is cheaper there!) and on the way i bought myself 2 dresses from ness and also a belt to go along! both blue but i really love them. total damage $221.45 *phew*

and, totally inspired by the dresses, i went home and ironed them immediately! wanted to wear one of them today but ended up wearing another dress (which is brand-new, rotting away in my wardrobe for like a year?!).

i feel pretty! hahahaha…

 

• on leave tomorrow!

i didn’t mention this before but my company has mandated a 10-day unpaid leave for staff, effective from April. On top of that, we are unable to carry our unused leaves to next year. effectively, this means that i have a total of 33 days leave to clear in the next 9 months – this is about 3 to 4 days per month!

so, basically apart from the first week of the month, i will be taking at least 1 day off every week. 4 day work week! how shiok is that? nah… it’s not shiok at all because it means i suffer a 5% pay cut every month, and is still expected to complete all my projects and deadlines anyway.

but well, looking on the bright side, i’m off from work tomorrow! and i have many activities planned…

 

• planning to perfect my eyesight!

first up! i have decided to pamper myself and go for lasik treatment!

one fine day, a colleague stopped me along the corridor and asked if i’m short-sighted. cos on somedays i’m wearing spectacles, and some days i’m not. then he asked casually why wouldn’t i go for lasik? and he shared the success stories of him and his wife who were like serious myopic before, but now enjoying perfect eyesight!

so he recommended his doctor and i did a research for feedback on dr lee hung ming and he has got fantastic reviews!

so i made up my mind and will be seeing dr lee tomorrow for my lasik evaluation, which is just a series of tests to determine whether i’m suitable for lasik. excited!!!

at the same time, i have made another appointment to see the gynae for a regular pap smear test. both doc are at gleneagles… so convenient!

 

• meeting besties!

and then… after my appointments, i’m going to meet J&J! looking forward to hearing how recharged jackie is after quitting her job and also to cheer jaslyn up! we are heading to a fren’s restuarant at bugis… yummy avocado milk, here i come!

 

• getting bonus!

and… last but not least, today i received the bonus letter from my boss! this further confirmed that i have sufficient funds to do lasik! haha… and buy a few gifts for dearest, and more! hooray!
